A TNPSC Drug Inspector enforces the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 within Tamil Nadu — inspecting pharmacies, wholesale and retail drug outlets, and manufacturing units across the state, and taking samples to verify drug quality and safety on behalf of the state's Drug Control Administration.
A degree in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Medicine with specialization in Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology, from a University or Institution recognized by the UGC.
Candidates must have completed 21 years of age as on 01.07.2026 (the notification's reference date). The applicable upper age limit and category-wise relaxations are set out in the specific notification — always verify the current cycle's exact figures before applying.
There is no interview at any stage — TNPSC Drug Inspector selection is purely on written-exam merit.
Under the Act and Rules, 1945, a Drugs Inspector is: (1) for any other drug or cosmetic, an Inspector appointed under Section 21; and (2) for Ayurvedic, Siddha, or Unani drugs, an Inspector appointed under Section 33G. Every Inspector is deemed a public servant under Section 21 of the IPC.
A TNPSC Drug Inspector carries out these duties within Tamil Nadu's Drug Control Administration, working alongside Assistant/Deputy Drugs Controllers in the state hierarchy.
